Thoughts

OTS is currently 56 days and 18 hours away. Isn't it amazing how time flies? I remember talking with Nick about how it was only 6 months away and now it is less than two months away. As the time draws nearer I am both excited and nervous for the time of separation. I am excited because it will be a light semester of classes and I will have a lot of time for family and friends. I am nervous because Nick won't be here for the comfort in stressful times or to prod me to call family and friends to do something! :) I know that God will be with me through this journey and I am excited to see what He has in store for my semester.

On a totally different note, I purchased this pattern on eBay today and I am super excited to play with it and make something with it!! I have found that I am a really big fan of 1970's vintage clothing and 1970's style clothing so this pattern really caught my eye when I was shopping this morning. It also made me think about the I Dream of Jeannie costume that I want to make because the vest style is perfect for that costume! I am hoping that I will have a little extra time during the spring semester to sew a few things and I think this dress and vest will be one of the first!

This weekend I was able to spend some time with friends on two separate occasions and I loved both times immensely! I went to a friend's house for a girl's night on Friday and we ate tasty food, talked, and watch the Prince of Persia. It was really fun to have some time to get to know those girls better and visit about girly stuff. Then Nick and I went to our lifegroup tonight and we ate some delicious brisket and talked for a couple of hours. I really enjoyed getting to visit with such sweet women and get to know them better. (The boys all stayed in the kitchen and talked mostly about guns, video games, and other 'boy' stuff) I feel truly blessed to have people around me who look forward to keeping me company while Nick is gone to his training. It is very encouraging to know that when I am feeling down I have family and many friends that I can call to perk me up so that I can the encouragement that Nick needs while he is there. Fall!

So, there are a few things that I love about the fall, the cooler temperatures, the beautiful colors, the fun costumes, and the anticipation of the holidays. I absolutely love it when fall finally arrives! In Plainview, it can take a little longer than I would like and sometimes we skip fall and move straight into winter. This year we have had a couple of nice fall days but summer seems to be hanging on pretty tight!

Like I said, one of the things I love about fall is costumes! I look forward to getting to be someone (or something) else for a day and this year is no exception! If any of y'all don't know, I love to sew and one of my favorite things to sew are costumes. I have a few different ideas for future costumes including, Tinkerbell, I Dream of Jeannie, and Princess Leia from Star Wars. I think I have decided on being a ragdoll this year though and now I'm just looking for some spare time to sew! I already have a dress so now I am going to make an apron, petticoat, and a pair of bloomers. I will be sure to post pictures when I'm done for those of you who are interested! :)

Nick and I have decorated our apartment with fall colors and leaves and it makes me feel so homey! Something about those colors is just relaxing to me. I love decorating for the holidays and the fall is just the beginning!

We have about 3 months before Nick leaves for OTS, please keep us in your prayers. I am very excited and very scared at the same time. Nick's OTS class begins on January 11, 2011. We are doing our best to prepare but I suppose there is only so much you can do!

Scarborough Renaissance Festival 2009

Well, my husband and I went to the Scarborough Renaissance Festival this last weekend and we had a great time! We saw a bald eagle during the Birds of Prey show and a great juggler and knife thrower. I have always been fascinated by that particular time period and it is wonderful to step into another time and place. It is very interesting to me how the Renaissance is portrayed at these festivals, all romance and fun, when the actual time was one of death and pain. When I go to something like this it makes me realize how blessed I am to live in the time that I do.

Anyway, this festival awakened my desire to sew and make clothing so I made my niece a dress yesterday and today. I'm hoping that it fits for a while so she can get some use out of it! Next I want to either sew myself a new clowning costume, renaissance dress, or something for everyday usage. I guess I'll just have to decide later! I'm also planning on getting my mom to help me create a dress form to use when I sew. I'll post pictures if I make one.
